Back in 2007 I began the National Podcast Post Month 30-day podcast challenge as an experiment. Now all these many years later it continues. This year I am alpha testing an idea of hosting a prompt based version of NaPodPoMo.

Why a prompt based challenge?

I’ve been asked a few times over the years from newcomers to NaPodPoMo if there were prompts for them to use during the challenge. The answer has always been no. Yet this idea has stuck with me and while it is a worthy idea, I couldn’t imagine prompts for NaPodPoMo itself. However, creating a new springtime version of NaPodPoMo in April based on prompts is definitely something I’m willing to put to the test.

So here it is: National Podcast Post Month Mobile Podcast Challenge aka #NaPodPoMoMPC

Why mobile?

One of the things I’ve heard over and over throughout the years has been where to start when it comes to tech and gear. While this is an important question to ask, I think it’s not the first question that should be asked. Not at all. In my opinion the first question any podcaster should ask themselves is:

What is the message I want to share with the world?

If you’re going to start a podcast, what are you going to talk about? I think many new podcasters focus too much on the tech and gear. Again, sounding good is important so knowing what gear and even more critically what environment you’ll be podcasting in should be known. Yet, I still do not think that is as important as the mission and message you have to share with the world.

So, to remove the overthinking about tech and gear, NaPodPoMo MPC will focus on the mission, message, show flow, and ideation around a podcast using something we all own and are comfortable with, the mobile phone. No one is going to feel intimidated by their phone. And as I’ve said for years,

“Your mobile phone is the production studio in your pocket.”

Want to do audio? Your phone can do that. Want to do video? Your phone can do that.

So if you’ve always wanted to start your very own podcast, but had no idea where to start, then I invite you to join the NaPodPoMo Mobile Podcast Challenge.
